Please help us give a warm Dragon welcome to Sheri Witham, who is joining Dewar Public Schools as our Special Education Teacher!
Sheri is a proud Henryetta native and brings more than 22 years of experience working with students. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources from East Central University in Ada and has been alternatively certified in Severe/Profound, Mild/Moderate, and Elementary Education since 2008.
Throughout her career, Sheri has served as a paraprofessional at Henryetta Elementary, a Special Education teacher at Ryal School, and most recently spent 14 years as a self-contained Special Education teacher at Henryetta Elementary.
When asked why she chose Dewar, Sheri shared:
"I believe Dewar is growing their program to better serve their students with special needs. I want to be part of that!"
She is most excited about joining a fresh program and getting to know the students, families, and community that make Dewar so special.
One of Sheri's proudest accomplishments happened outside the classroom. After a devastating tornado struck her hometown of Sulphur, she and her brother transformed fallen trees and branches from the storm into handcrafted walking sticks. They carefully trimmed, sanded, finished, and wrapped each stick with paracord before adding commemorative tags. Together, they sold more than 200 walking sticks, shipping them to several states and raising approximately $3,000to support Sulphur's recovery efforts. It's a testament to Sheri's compassion, creativity, and servant's heart.
Outside of school, Sheri's greatest joy is spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren! While she currently has nine grandkids, grandbaby number 10 is expected to arrive this August! She also enjoys serving through church camps, Vacation Bible School, and summer mission trips.
One fun fact about Sheri? During a family vacation to Tennessee this summer, she spotted a real black bear from her hotel balcony—an experience she says was unforgettable!
